Room Description

The Lodge has seven double rooms and five twin rooms. The rooms have en suite bathrooms with hot showers; comfortable lounge areas; large beds; secluded balconies with seating (morning tea and coffee are served here); and screened windows that open upwards to provide a 180 degree view of the forest. The temperature in the rooms is controlled by the natural climate of the forest.

  • RainForest Lodge runs on hydroelectric power and uses energy saving lightbulbs. Meals are cooked on gas. For showers, the water is heated by solar power fitted individually on each room.

  • Paper and plastic are recycled whenever possible, indigenous seedlings are grown in our tree nursery to reforest areas that have become degraded.

Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp

Location: Located near the gates of Mgahinga National Park

Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp is located by the entrance to Mgahinga National Park and is only 12 km from the southwestern town of Kisoro near the Rwandan border.

At the camp, visitors can enjoy the magnificent views of the famous Virunga Volcanoes and take part in monkey trekking. The camp is located at a perfect starting point for golden monkey trekking through the national park.

Travellers Rest Hotel

Location: Kisoro, 14km from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Travellers Rest Hotel is a colonial-style hotel located just outside Kisoro, in the extreme southwestern corner of Uganda, offering a perfect base for trips into Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. When you enter, the ibis welcomes you with its typical sound. The beautiful surrounding garden is the home of many birds. Sitting on the terrace you can smell the sweet perfume of the honeysuckle, and in the cool evenings you can warm yourself by the fireplace, outdoors or in the lounge, surrounded by unusual African artifacts and a huge collection of Congolese masks.

  • The women´s dance group performs dramas to raise awareness of environmental issues, and young people are discouraged from poaching wild animals in the park.

They support environmental and AIDs awareness campaigns in local schools and focus on stopping young people from involving in the acts that may lead them to contract AIDS.
