Ruhija Gorilla friends resort

Location: Ruhija Village, adjacent to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and less than 1 km from the gorillas’ natural habitat.
The community members of Katojo Parish, Kabale District created the Ruhija Gorilla Friends Resort in July 2008 to support the community’s income by providing tourists with affordable accommodation and access to the region’s incredible gorilla population and other wildlife.

Responsible Travel

  • We are taking active measures to separate waste, as well as use of water and electricity at the lodge. ¬†We have information displayed at the lodge about the use of water.
  • We support local schools and health care facilities, and work to make their activities environmentally sustainable.
  • The lodge staff are hired from the local community, provided with on-the-job training, and encouraged to pursue further studies.
  • We purchase locally grown food, artisanal crafts, fabric, lodge decor, and furniture from the local community.
