Responsible Travel

  • We have a rubbish pit within the facility where we collect and burn rubbish in order to minimize solid waste. Sometimes compost from the rubbish pit is used to fertilize the gardens.
  • We use low-flush toilets to diminish our water usage.
  • We turn off computers and printers whenever they are not in use. Our offices have sufficient natural lighting and even the lamps we use at night are energy efficient.
  • We educate visitors about conservation and waste reduction. We emphasize the “leave no trace" policy to minimize damage to any monuments and improve conservation. We also have posters that we handout to tourists that outline various roles they can play in environmental conservation.
  • We mostly use local guides, as they have greater local experience and knowledge.
  • We tell our clients that “the excitement of travel lies in exploring”, therefore the best way to do that is tasting traditional food in Ugandan restaurants. This motto helps enrich the tourism experience as well as supporting surrounding communities.
  • Our itineraries include village walks, with trips to local markets, village centers, local schools or local societies such as the Batwa Trail. This way tourists experience culturally fulfilling travel while simultaneously helping local communities generate income.
  • We also try to encourage tourists to use community based accommodation.
  • We as an organization volunteer at a local orphanage in Rakai district (area affiliated with poverty) and we also extend services to the main hospital, such as repairs of the floor, beds for the maternity section, generator and scanner.
  • We have volunteering outreach programs in which participants learn about the tourism sector and why sustainable tourism must be made a first priority.
  • We also organize tailored volunteer tourism programs.
