Room Description

The Lodge has seven double rooms and five twin rooms. The rooms have en suite bathrooms with hot showers; comfortable lounge areas; large beds; secluded balconies with seating (morning tea and coffee are served here); and screened windows that open upwards to provide a 180 degree view of the forest. The temperature in the rooms is controlled by the natural climate of the forest.

Responsible Travel

  • RainForest Lodge runs on hydroelectric power and uses energy saving lightbulbs. Meals are cooked on gas. For showers, the water is heated by solar power fitted individually on each room.
  • We use natural cleaning products that do not pollute the surrounding forest.
  • Paper and plastic are recycled whenever possible, indigenous seedlings are grown in our tree nursery to reforest areas that have become degraded.

  • We encourage guests every Monday and Friday to visit the local market, a short walk from the Birdnest Resort. The market offers mainly fresh fruits and vegetables and some local made handcrafts, as well as second hand clothing. This way tourists can meet the locals, support the economy and get a real sense of Ugandan culture.
  • We employ local staff and offer them extra training and courses to help their professional development. Almost all our staff come directly from the surrounding areas.
  • We purchase locally grown food from the local market and communities. We also buy crafts, lodge décor and furniture from local craftsmen and carpenters.

Nkuringo Gorilla Camp

Location: Nkuringo, bordering Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The Nkuringo Gorilla Camp is located at 2161m above sea level on the Nteko ridge, overlooking a beautiful swath of the world-renowned Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The ridge provides a superb vantage across the Kashasha river valley to the breathtaking, conical peaks of the Virunga Volcanoes, and the surrounding canopy of the Bwindi Forest, home to the endangered mountain gorilla.

Our accommodation includes en-suite cottages, bandas, rooms, tents and a campsite for those who travel with their own tents. We also have a small restaurant serving locally sourced food, and self-catering facilities, so we can welcome guests of all budgets and tastes.

This section of forest is home to the Nkuringo group of gorillas and the camp is ideally located to see them close up. We also offer walking safaris through the forest to the village of Buhoma, and guests will enjoy birding as well as meeting our friendly Bakiga, Bafumbira and Batwa neighbours.

Our Walking Safaris have generated employment for local guides, porters and the canoe team. We are an equal opportunity employer, and are training women to join our team of guides.

The Youth Group entertains our guests with regular cultural performances, and often put the tips they receive towards community projects such as the library and pre-school. They also run a small craft shop. Produce is locally sourced to support Nkuringo’s farming families.

Simba Safari Camp is a budget safari accommodation situated on the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Here you will find a variety of comfortable and affordable guest rooms, dormitory rooms and a well-established campsite with safari tents or space to pitch your own.

Budongo Eco Lodge

Location: Budongo Central Forest Reserve, inside Murchison Falls National Park

Get away from it all at Budongo Eco Lodge! These comfortable and spacious eco-cabins are tucked away in a dark, cool forest, home to chimps, monkeys, rare bird species and tree hyraxes, providing a wonderful mix of relaxation and adventure!
